Not everyone took kindly to an Olympian’s political message against ICE. Gus Kenworthy made a viral post last week on social media called out the immigration group with an expletive message to them written in yellow snow.
ICE has been the centre of controversy this year following the shooting deaths of two people in Minnesota. Many celebrities have spoken out against Donald Trump’s administration, who have defended the actions of ICE. The skier competing at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics received death threats online after his post.
Gus Kenworthy revealed the response after his viral “F*** ICE” post
The Reuters TikTok account posted Gus’ message. The British-born freestyle skier said that he’s gotten his share of support from people following his post. At the same time, he admits there’ve been some death threats. Among them are some people allegedly telling him to “kill myself.” Others reportedly were hoping he breaks his neck or blows out his knee while at the Olympics.
His Instagram post had the words f*ck ice urinated into the snow. Gus is one of the many Olympians speaking out against the controversial organization. Hunter Hess and Chris Lillis are among others voicing their displeasure about ICE. The British Olympic Association says Gus won’t face any repercussions for his post. They say that he has the right to express himself.
Trump previously took exception to Hunter denouncing ICE, calling him a loser on his Truth Social. Swiss freestyle skier Sarah Hoefflin called those speaking out heroes.
A 2024 silver medallist in Slopestyle, Gus is competing for Great Britain at these Olympics after previously representing the United States. Gus will be taking part in the halfpipe event at these Olympics in Italy. He has said that the 2026 Games will be his final ones.
