Hollywood is mourning the loss of James Van Der Beek, with tributes pouring in from across the industry. Notable celebrities have taken to their social media to bid farewell to the Dawson’s Creek leading man.

James Van Der Beek passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 48, following a battle with colorectal cancer. Best known for playing Dawson Leery on The WB series Dawson’s Creek, the actor has remained one of the most prominent figures in the film and television industry. Shortly after the news of his death broke, colleagues and fellow celebrities have shared heartfelt tributes, celebrating the late star’s legacy.

Sarah Michelle Gellar penned an emotional message, saying, “I’m so sad for your beautiful family. While James legacy will always live on, this is a huge loss to not just your family but the world. F–k Cancer.”

Mary Margaret-Humes, who played Van Der Beek’s mother on Dawson’s Creek, wrote on Instagram, “Rarely am I at a loss for words … today would be the exception. James, my gracious warrior, you fought a hard battle against all odds with such quiet strength and dignity. I will always love and admire you for that.”

Another Dawson’s Creek co-star Kerr Smith wrote, “I’m so grateful for being able to call James a brother. I’ll miss him deeply. Rest easy.”

Additionally, Busy Philipps, who played Audrey in the 90s teen drama, also posted a long heartfelt message remembering her co-star. “My heart is deeply hurting for all of us today…every person who knew James and loved him, anyone who loved his work or had the pleasure of meeting him, all of his dear friends and community that surrounded him as he battled this illness, especially his parents and brother and sister,” the actress said. “But I am profoundly heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly and their six magical children,” she added.

In conclusion, she said, “James Van Der Beek was one in a billion and he will be forever missed and i don’t know what else to say. i am just so so sad. He was my friend and I loved him and i’m so grateful for our friendship all these years.”
