Savannah Guthrie is seemingly taking a different tactic than law enforcement in the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for more than two weeks. The 84-year-old was last seen on January 31 and was reported missing from her Arizona home on February 1.
An expert speaks of Savannah Guthrie’s latest video release after mom Nancy’s disappearance
Police officers investigating Nancy’s disappearance have followed several leads since her disappearance. These include ransom notes, blood spots outside her home, and a masked intruder caught on a doorbell camera. At the same time, Today co-host Savannah has been trying to appeal to her mother’s kidnapper in a bid to get Nancy home.
According to a former CIA member and FBI special agent who spoke to Page Six, Savannah is taking a “different angle” with her emotional pleas on social media.
“I think the FBI and authorities aren’t necessarily encouraging her or telling her what to do. She wants to,” said Tracy Walder. “These don’t seem in response to specific ransom demands. Rather, let’s just try a different angle to appeal to this [kidnapper].”
The expert’s comments come just one day after Savannah’s latest Instagram post. In it, the presenter said her family still “has hope” that Nancy is alive.
“I wanted to say to whoever has her, or who knows where she is, that it’s never too late,” Savannah said in a video to her 1.9 million followers. “You’re not lost, or alone, and it is never too late to do the right thing.”
“Bring her home,” Savannah added in the caption.
Meanwhile, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke of being “stuck” in the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance. This has prompted law enforcement to look at the motive behind her disappearance, which Chris said could be “revenge.”
