Whoopi Goldberg has strongly defended herself after her name was revealed to be in the Jeffrey Epstein files. Speaking on The View, the presenter denied having any form of relationship with the convicted sex offender. “I wasn’t his friend,” she said.
Whoopi Goldberg denies being Jeffrey Epstein’s “friend”
On February 17’s episode of The View, Whoopi cleared the air about her inclusion in the Epstein files. Although inclusion in the files is not an indication of any wrongdoing, the actor and presenter rightfully wanted to set the record straight.
“My name is in the files, yes,” she said. Next, Whoopi read aloud the email which features her name. In the message, addressed to Epstein, someone asked if the financier could offer his private jet to Whoopi for a trip to Monaco. “No thanks,” he responded.
“So in other words, anybody can be on this list?” responded co-host Joy Behar.
“Anybody,” replied Whoopi. “This is my point.”
“I wasn’t his girlfriend, I wasn’t his friend,” she emphasized. “People actually believe that I was with him. It’s like, honey, come on. Every man that I’ve ever been with, you’ve known about him.”
“You used to have to have facts before you said stuff,” Whoopi went on, denying that she ever flew on Epstein’s infamous private jet.
Elsewhere in the segment, co-host Sara Haines pointed out that the files contain the names of people mentioned in “news articles, third party emails, or contacts” shared with Epstein. That said, she emphasized that most people, like herself, are “looking for” accountability from those who had real relationships with Epstein.
“No one should be above scrutiny,” she said. “No amount of status should soften abuse, no system should protect the powerful over victims.”
