Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapper had a specific goal in mind. That’s what Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos believes following the 84-year-old’s disappearance. She had not been seen or heard from since January 31st, with police and the FBI following up on numerous potential leads.
Chris believes that her alleged kidnapping wasn’t a random spur-of-the-moment situation. “I think this was an individual who had a target,” Chris said in a recent interview. The reason behind that, however, is unclear to him. Photos and a description of the suspected person have been released, though investigators have yet to track that person down.

Into week three of Nancy’s disappearance, Chris and his team aren’t giving up in their quest to find her. Speaking to The Today Show on Wednesday, Chris says the alleged kidnapper, “has made it tough” on investigators to find her and track them down. At the same time, he says that he has a tough team of investigator determined to crack this case and bring Nancy home safely.
Surveillance footage from Nancy’s Tucson home on February 1 revealed a gun-wielding masked man walking up her porch. It’s believed that this coincides with the same time Nancy went missing. Chris believes there may be some DNA from the suspect left at the scene. He says they won’t know that until that is separated and sorted.
Chris admitted earlier this week that a timeline to find Nancy is rather unpredictable. He says that it could be within hours, days, weeks, months or years before that happens. According to the Sherrif the DNA is more critical than any glove found two miles away.
He notes that surveillance video shows the alleged suspect wearing a ring. Chris says that his team will examine that closely and see if that leads to anything. The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information on this case.
