Donald Trump Gives Iran a 10-Day Deadline for Deal, Warns of ‘Bad Things’

Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum, claiming that the world will see “in 10 days” what happens if the US and Iran do not reach a deal. The two-time US President made the statement at the recently concluded first session of the Board of Peace. This comes as the US has increased military forces in the Middle East.

It seems like the POTUS issued a staunch warning to Iran over reaching a deal very soon. He has said that the world will find out “over the next, probably, 10 days” whether the US will reach a deal with Iran or resort to military action.

“We have to make a meaningful deal, otherwise bad things happen,” Donald Trump said at the first meeting of his Board of Peace in Washington, D.C., about negotiations with the Islamic Republic about its nuclear program (via BBC).

On the other side, the Iranian government has told the UN Secretary-General that it will consider US bases in Iran targets if they are used for military action. Tehran’s UN mission reportedly told UN Secretary-General António Guterres that Trump’s current stance hints at a risk of attack.

“It’s proven to be, over the years, not easy to make a meaningful deal with Iran,” Trump said, “Otherwise bad things happen.” A day ago, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also warned Iran. She suggested that they would be “very wise” to make a deal at this juncture.

Meanwhile, many have opposed the use of military action in Iran without congressional approval. Ro Khanna, a Democratic Party member from California, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “A war with Iran would be catastrophic. Iran is a complex society of 90 million people with significant air defenses and military capabilities. We also have 30-40k U.S. troops in the region who could be at risk of retaliation. Congress must do its job and stop this march to war.”

Moreover, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has also issued a strong warning to the US military forces. “The Americans constantly say that they’ve sent a warship toward Iran. Of course, a warship is a dangerous piece of military hardware. However, more dangerous than that warship is the weapon that can send that warship to the bottom of the sea,” he wrote on X.

Notably, Donald Trump announced the Board of Peace to primarily oversee the end of the two-year war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. However, with the conflict with Iran escalating, tensions remain high all around. Consequently, the next few days will be crucial in understanding what turn it takes.
