Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor turned 66 yesterday (February 19), but his birthday plans were derailed when police turned up at his door. He was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, stemming from the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and has since been released, pending investigation.
Presumably, the former prince didn’t expect to spend his birthday in police custody. So, what were his plans for the big day?
Ex-Prince Andrew planned a birthday with the late Queen’s corgis
According to The Sun, the ex-Duke of York planned a quiet birthday with his pets, including the late Queen’s corgis. He has looked after Her Majesty’s beloved Sandy and Muick since she passed away in 2022.
Per the newspaper’s insider, Andrew had just woken up when police officers arrived at his door with “stealth, speed and surprise.” He then spent 11 hours in custody, while investigators searched two properties connected to him. These are Wood Farm in Sandringham and Royal Lodge in Windsor.
“The plan was to spend a quiet and lonely 66th birthday at Wood Farm as no one was coming round to celebrate with him, not even Fergie or their two children Beatrice and Eugenie,” the source claimed. “He was expecting to spend the day with seven dogs, instead he had 15 cops at his door.”
Police in the UK had previously said they were reviewing claims that Andrew shared sensitive information with convicted sex offender Epstein while serving as trade envoy. These allegations came to light following the release of millions of files by the US Department of Justice. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to the late financier.
After spending the day detained by police, the former prince was released. He was photographed in the backseat of a car returning to his temporary Norfolk home about 7pm.
