You would think stripping former Prince Andrew’s royal titles and honors would be (short of jail) severe punishment for his misdeeds. But now, the UK government wants to take things further.
At his birth, Andrew was second in line for the throne, behind his big brother now-King Charles. But over the years, he’s descended in the order, as Charles’ sons and their children took precedence.
Andrew is now eighth in line for the throne, behind Prince Harry’s two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. But now the U.K. government may take that away from the disgraced royal.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is facing further disgrace after his arrest

On October 30, 2025, King Charles removed his brother’s titles of Prince and the Duke of York. Subsequently, his former HRH would be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
While it was within Charles’ Royal Prerogative to remove Andrew’s titles and honors, he could not remove him from the line of succession. Any changes to the line of succession would require an act of Parliament. Following its approval by MPs and peers, it would also need to be supported by all other Commonwealth countries where King Charles is head of state.
In recent months, more information has come out about Andrew’s relationship with child predator Jeffrey Epstein. Yesterday’s arrest may just be the last straw. According to the BBC, lawmakers are now considering removing Andrew from the line of royal succession altogether.
Though Downing Street denied having any plans to change the line of succession in October, the climate has since changed. Lawmakers want to insure that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor can never be king. However, his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, retain their titles and place in the succession.
