Nick Reiner is pleading his innocence following the deaths of his parents. The son of Rob and Michele Reiner is on trial for allegedly murdering the two in December. The second of the late couple’s three kids pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in court on Monday.
The co-writer of the film Being Charlie wore a brown jumpsuit in court while in handcuffs. The case had been delayed, with Nick currently represented by public defender Kimberly Greene. He spoke to her through a plexiglass during Monday’s proceedings.

With Nick’s plea now on the record, his murder trial is set to begin soon. Monday’s proceedings were originally scheduled for January 7. That, however, got pushed back after Nick’s original attorney, Alan Jackson, resigned. Despite walking away from the case, Alan has maintained his former client’s innocence.
Rob and Michele were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood home on December 14th. The night before, Nick and Rob were said to be having an intense argument at a Christmas Party at Conan O’Brien’s place in Los Angeles.
Nick has been open in the past about his issues with substance abuse. He is being held in solitary confinement at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. He had been on suicide watch following his arrest. Nick is facing two charges of first-degree murder in his parents’ deaths.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman said afterwards that this case is “on track.” An official coroner’s report into Rob and Michele’s deaths has yet to be released. The prosecution could be seeking the death penalty in this matter. Meanwhile, the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the deaths to be a homicide.
Rob and Michele’s other kids, Romy and Jake, have been staying relatively low-key since their brother’s arrest. That is reportedly as they continue to mourn the tragedy. Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia prior to the murders. Romy was the one said to have found her parents dead in December. A preliminary hearing in this case will take place on April 29th.
