Martin Short’s Daughter Katherine Dead at 42

Another tragedy has devastated the world of Hollywood. Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, has reportedly died under sad circumstances. It’s yet another tragedy for the Canadian comedian, famous for creating the character Jiminy Glick in sketch comedy segments, among others.

News of her passing comes over 15 years after Martin’s wife and Katherine’s mother, Nancy Dolan, died of ovarian cancer. Katherine’s death occurred on the same day as that of Revenge of the Nerds actor Robert Carradine, who died from suicide. The circumstances behind Katherine’s death are equally saddening.

It’s been a rough week in Hollywood, with Katherine’s death sure to send shockwaves through the world. While she wasn’t a big star like her dad, Martin is a beloved public figure and in Hollywood. TMZ reports that she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Los Angeles police and the fire department responded to Katherine’s Hollywood Hills home on Monday evening. She was found dead shortly after they got there.

Katherine was a social worker who earned a bachelor’s degree from NYU before earning a master’s in social work from USC. She had been involved in a charity called Bring Change To Mind. That group’s goal is to break down stigmas connected with mental health issues. She is the eldest of Martin’s three kids.

In January rumors were swirling that Martin and Meryl Streep could soon tie the knot. Since 2024, it has been speculated that the two were secretly dating. Martin and Nancy were married for 30 years before her passing.

This is the second personal tragedy Martin has suffered this year. He recently paid tribute to fellow Canadian and good friend Catherine O’Hara. The Home Alone actress died on January 30.

Martin has a sold-out comedy show with Steve Martin scheduled for Saturday in Minneapolis. No word on whether that show will be cancelled.
