Brandon Moreno has no interest in joining other sports stars in paying a visit to the White House and meeting with Donald Trump.
The MMA fighter, who is Mexican, was asked about Trump at a recent press conference ahead of this weekend’s UFC card in Mexico City. Brandon is facing Lone’er Kavanagh in the main event in a bid to get on track for the UFC flyweight title fight. However, when the conference got political, the two-time flyweight champion got into a heated exchange with an interviewer.
Brandon Moreno is “not interesting” in attending Donald Trump’s UFC White House event
Brandon was asked about a potential White House card by a reporter. Previously, Trump has expressed interest in hosting sports events at the White House. A UFC White House event is planned for June this year. Additionally, rumors have been swirling about a potential WWE event at the President’s home, given his close relationship with its Chief Content Officer, Triple H (Paul Levesque).
In response, Brandon said, “Brother, I want you to tell me why I would want to be there.” Brandon is a proud Mexican patriot, often draping himself in the country’s flag at UFC events.
The reporter responded to Brandon by saying a White House card would be a “very special” event.
There, the MMA star began to lose his cool. “For what?” Brandon responded. The journalist responded, “For the company?”
Brandon may be a UFC fighter, but he’s not part of the corporate side, as he asserted in his response. He then fired back, “For you? I’m not interested. Thank you very much.”
The prospect of meeting the President has been a hot-button issue for many athletes as of late. The U.S. women’s hockey team declined a White House invitation to attend the State of the Union address earlier this week. In contrast, the majority of the men’s U.S. team attended the event and were treated to a McDonald’s feast by the President. However, five members of the Olympic gold medallist team declined an invitation.
