Senior Man Cast in Taylor Swift’s ‘Oplatite’ MV ‘Had No Idea Who She Was’

One of the most discussed moments from Taylor Swift‘s “Opalite” MV involves an 83-year-old senior man from Kent named Barrie Reynolds, who reportedly had no idea who Swift was. Reynolds turned up to set, did the job, and only then realized he had spent the day working alongside a famous singer. The news stunned his granddaughters, but he reportedly could not understand what the big deal was.

A senior man named Barrie Reynolds appears in Taylor Swift’s retro-style MV for “Opalite,” which also features Graham Norton, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Lewis Capaldi, and a cameo from Cillian Murphy. The BBC reported that Reynolds performs with the St Nicholas Players in Ringwold and landed the role through his work with an acting and modelling agency.

Reynolds told BBC Radio Kent that his granddaughters, Millie and Francesca, reacted with disbelief when they heard he would be in a Taylor Swift video, but he did not share their excitement at first. As he put it, “I’m afraid I have no idea who she was.”

Reynolds described the early start and the logistics of getting to set in north London, telling the station, “I was told I needed to be in north London for 07:00 GMT and I said there was no trains, so they sent a taxi for me instead.” By the time filming wrapped, he had met Swift and even picked up a playful nickname for her.

Reynolds claimed he called her “Niftie Swiftie,” referring to how fast she moved during the dance scenes. Additionally, he shared his take on the song itself. He said, “This particular song was very catchy, even though I scored her a zero!”

Barrie Reynold’s story is a hit with fans because it feels so ordinary inside something seemingly as huge as working for Taylor Swift’s “Opalite” MV, which featured more than one A-lister acting beside the senior man.
