Meryl Streep is being ‘incredibly supportive’ of Martin Short, sources suggest

According to a recent report by Rob Shuter, Meryl Streep has been a comforting presence for Martin Short following his daughter’s recent death. An insider source has shared that The Devil Wears Prada star is helping navigate through this devastating loss.

“Meryl has been incredibly supportive,” the source shared. “She’s not making it about headlines. She’s simply there,” they added. The insiders also said that the longtime friends have grown closer amid the tragedy.

Meryl Streep and Martin Short had sparked dating rumors in the past, though they have never publicly confirmed their relationship. They have been close friends for years and have recently shared the screen in Only Murders in the Building. Additionally, they have often been spotted together in various public events and award shows.

Most recently, Short postponed his upcoming comedy shows with his Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin. New dates for the shows have not been announced yet. “Tickets will be honored for a future rescheduled date,” a representative for Short announced.

The report comes just days after Short’s eldest daughter, Katherine, passed away at the age of 42. Records from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner have confirmed that she died by suicide.

Their family representative later issued a public statement to announce the news. “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” the statement reads. “The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
