Deadliest Catch Will Resume Filming Days After Todd Meadows’ Death: Details

The show must go on, and the producers of Discovery Channel’s long-running show Deadliest Catch aren’t missing a beat. Just days after a 25-year-old deckhand named Todd Meadows died on the job, cameras are allegedly getting ready to roll again. Is it too soon?

Page Six shared the latest details on Todd’s tragic death at sea. It happened on February 25 while working on board the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea. It’s a notoriously dangerous stretch of sea, and sources said the boat hit “treacherous” conditions that caused him to fall overboard. Crew members recovered him from the water 10 minutes later.

The boat was a part of the upcoming Season 22 of Deadliest Catch. A source close to the network said that it was the last vessel still at sea for the season and that filming had wrapped. However, Todd’s coworker, Trey John Green III, said otherwise.

He was onboard at the time of the accident and claimed that they’re getting ready to pick back up where they left off.

“We are just touching home for 2-3 days then heading back to Dutch [Harbor in Alaska] to finish the season,” Trey told the outlet.

Trey went on to call his teammate a “rock star” and reflected on the finishing expedition that “unfortunately ended in tragedy.” He also claimed that “Discovery was filming” when the deadly incident took place.

“We all did everything we could to save him, and out at sea that’s no easy task,” Trey reflected.

While producers determine how to move forward with Season 22 of Deadliest Catch, the United States Coast Guard is investigating the issue to determine exactly where things went wrong. They’ll also enforce necessary corrective actions with the vessel, should they find any evidence of negligence.

Deadliest Catch is streaming on Discovery+.
