The sitcom actress admits that she originally planned to keep that detail out of the book. She says that nowadays it’s not a moment that she’s afraid to share. The book also discusses self-worth, loving yourself, letting go, and grown older.
Valerie Bertinelli reveals the harrowing ordeal in her new memoir

Valerieis getting to the “raw truth” in her new novel. Those are among the many details she shared exclusively with People. The Golden Globe-winning actress adds that she no longer has a problem sharing what happened to her when she was 11. “I was sexually assaulted. It doesn’t feel like it owns me anymore.”
When you open that chapter of the book, Valerie “purposefully” includes a picture of herself at 11. She says that she can’t believe that sexual abuses on young girls is still happening today, “I’m furious about it,” she bravely declared. She adds that the time is now for more people to advocate against these things and say “enough.”
It took her at least 10 years to open up to someone about this revelation. However, when Valerie first shared this with a therapist, she admits it didn’t feel as liberating as she’d thought, letting go of that secret. She admits to eating and drinking more to deal with that sorrow.
This revelation isn’t the only shocking moment we’ve witnessed from Valerie over the past few months. In November, she surprised fans with what looked like her new hair on an Instagram post. She credits the support of Drew Barrymore and her son Wolfgang Van Halen, and her love of cooking, for helping her heal. Getting Naked: The Quiet Work of Becoming Perfectly Imperfect is available beginning on March 10th.
