Christian Bale Doesn’t See ‘Competition’ in Jacob Elordi Amid Frankenstein Comparison

Christian Bale, who played Frankenstein’s monster in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!” gave a humble response when asked about the comparison between his take on the character and Jacob Elordi‘s portrayal of the tragic figure in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. In a recent interview, the English actor shut down any notion of a competition and showered praise on Elordi and his looks.

Christian Bale addresses Jacob Elordi comparison

While speaking with Steve Hargrave to promote “The Bride!,” the Oscar winner was asked what he thought about Jacob Elordi’s performance as Frankenstein’s monster in Frankenstein. When the former asked the latter if there was any competition, Christian Bale replied, “Absolutely not. To me, there’s no competition.”

“I don’t see competition whatsoever,” he added. Bale stressed that he never viewed his fellow actors as rivals unless he personally disliked them. He then praised Elordi, saying he heard the Euphoria actor was “wonderful” in Guillermo del Toro’s film, before stating, “He’s tall, the b******… he’s ridiculously good looking, how could I ever begin to compete with him?”

Meanwhile, Hargrave told Bale that the latter won the “dance off” and that he danced better, which the actor appreciated before saying he hadn’t seen Elordi’s Frankenstein dance.

In a separate interview with TODAY, Bale praised Elordi, likening him to “Adonis,” the Greek figure known for his beauty, and pointing out that the latter had the “real height” of Frankenstein’s monster, while joking that his take on the character was “all fake.” He also revealed that he hadn’t seen del Toro’s Frankenstein on purpose, but commended Elordi’s acting, calling him “a hell of a talent.”

“The Bride!” will hit United States theaters on March 6, 2026. Meanwhile, Frankenstein is currently streaming on Netflix. Notably, the former holds a 60% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the latter has a stronger critical score of 85% and an audience score of 94%.

Both films have completely different stories. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film follows Frankenstein’s monster’s complicated romance with The Bride, played by Jessie Buckley. Meanwhile, Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” explores the troubled relationship between the monster and his creator, Victor Frankenstein.
