Fox News may be turning against Donald Trump. On March 4, Dana Perino blasted the administration for worrying too much about the media’s coverage of the war.
Speaking on The Five, George W. Bush’s former White House press secretary felt that Trump’s team is “too hung up” on press negativity. Perino thinks they should focus on more positive messaging surrounding the conflict.
“I consume a lot of media, and I know there are some bad actors in the media,” she said. “But overall … there’s a ton of coverage. I don’t think it’s all negative across the board. Some of it, yes, like [asking], ‘When is it going to be over?’”
Donald Trump’s team continues to use their “fake news” attacks
“If you’re in the administration and you’re getting really hung up on what you think the ‘enemy in the mainstream media’ is saying about you, you’re focusing way too narrowly,” Perino added. “I don’t think the coverage of it is that bad at all.”
Ironically, Perino’s comments coincide with Pete Hegseth’s complaint that the media is too focused on the number of U.S. servicemembers who have been killed. He thinks they’re just trying to make Trump “look bad.”
“We’ve taken control of Iran’s airspace and waterways without boots on the ground,” Hegseth said. “We control their fate. But when … tragic things happen, it’s front-page news again … I get it, the press only wants to make the president look bad. But try for once to report the reality.”
Meanwhile, on March 4 during Leavitt’s first press briefing since the U.S. attacked Iran, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked, “Given what Secretary Hegseth said this morning, is it the position of this administration that the press should not prominently cover the deaths of U.S. servicemembers?”
“No, it’s the position of this administration that the press … should accurately report on the success of Operation Epic Fury and the damage it is doing to the rogue Iranian regime that has threatened the lives of every single American in this room,” Leavitt said.
Furthermore, Collins reiterated that Hegseth was “complaining” about the deaths of U.S. servicemembers being front-page news.
“That’s not what the secretary said, Kaitlan, and that’s not what [he] meant, and you know it,” Leavitt snapped. “The press does want to make the president look bad — especially you, and especially CNN.”
