Hoda Kotb Reportedly Wants Full-Time Today Show Return: Details

Word on the street is that Today Show co-host sub Hoda Kotb may step back into her former role on the program. She has filled in for her friend Savannah Guthrie since February 9.

After her mother was taken from her home on February 1, Savannah has been with her family in Tucson. Lately, there has been public speculation that she may leave the Today show.

According to Radar, Hoda is positioning herself for a return full-time, since Savannah’s return is uncertain. The two began their co-hosting partnership in 2018, marking the Today Show’s first all-female anchor team.

Hoda last appeared as co-host on January 10, 2025 after 17 years. She left to spend more time with her two young daughters and also host her podcast, Making Space.

According to the Daily Mail sources, Hoda ‘is absolutely ready to step back in full-time if asked.’ “This isn’t just about feelings. It’s about the franchise,” an NBC insider revealed. “Morning TV is a multimillion-dollar machine. They need stability. They need a steady hand. That hand is Hoda.”

There has been recent buzz about Savannah’s willingness to return to the Today Show. This has been partly prompted by Hoda’s consistent hosting duties in her former role. “There’s real uncertainty about Savannah’s timeline,” another insider told the Daily Mail. “No one knows when – or if – things return to normal.”

Hoda joining Savannah’s co-host Craig Melvin is more strategic than it appears. “Hoda stepping in wasn’t random. Those appearances were strategic. Conversations are happening behind the scenes. The show cannot afford to sit in limbo. Advertisers and affiliates expect consistency,” a source revealed to the Irish Star.

An insider notes that NBC executives are watching the ratings closely, and Hoda’s popularity is evident. According to an insider who spoke with the Daily Mail, “Hoda remains enormously popular with viewers. Bringing her back full-time would be the least disruptive option.”

In the meantime, insiders say the network is well prepared for contingency plans in the event Savannah does not return, the Daily Mail reports.
