It’s the end of an era! Jersey Shore is leaving MTV after 18 (yes, 18!) seasons, with Season 9 of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation set to be the last on the channel. So, what’s the future of this beloved franchise?
Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Season 9 won’t happen at MTV
MTV announced on March 4 that Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Season 9 would be the last it airs. The show initially ran from 2009 to 2012 and led to multiple spin-offs and revivals. These included Snooki & JWoww, The Pauly D Project, Double Shot at Love and, of course, Family Vacation.
“The Shore family is going bigger than ever, celebrating the moments that made this franchise a cultural phenomenon,” MTV said in a statement about the end of the show’s run. “The all-new season is packed with fist-pump-worthy milestones and unforgettable moments, from pregnancies and baby showers to bachelorette parties, gender reveals, ab reveals, births, birthdays, weddings and more.”
But, while the show may see its last season on MTV, the cast has hinted that this isn’t the end. Taking to Instagram, the group shared a video in which they teased a “reroute” for the iconic show.
“Legends don’t retire — they reroute,” the cast said in a collab post. “The network changed. The legacy didn’t. Jersey Shore is forever. Just wait until you see what’s next.”
Fans of the show were, unsurprisingly, relieved after watching the clip. After all, many have grown up watching the likes of Snooki, Pauly D, and Mike the Situation.
“Hurry uppppppppp, you guys are my guilty pleasure,” one viewer commented on the group’s post. “Been watching you guys since the very first season and will never stop watching you guys,” someone else replied.
