Lauren Sanchez has opened up about a “special” speech from one of her sons at her wedding. The Emmy-winning journalist tied the knot with Bezos in late June 2025, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, Italy. Both Sanchez and Bezos’ kids took part in the festivities.
Lauren Sanchez gets emotional talking about son’s special speech at her wedding
Lauren Sanchez is currently busy promoting her second children’s book, The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea. On March 3, she stopped by Studio 1 for a conversation on the TODAY show. The author discussed her experience as a dyslexic person and also revealed that the “biggest moment” of her wedding was with her kids.
Sanchez stated that one of her sons, who has dyslexia and does not mind her talking about it, gave a heartfelt speech. She said he “went up there and talked about a moment that was extremely important to him, and I had no idea what he was going to say.” Further, she recounted how her son talked about an important moment from his childhood.
“He was in the 4th grade and not writing well, and he wrote this sentence that says, ‘I can do this,'” she recounted. “And it was his first sentence. And that’s really late to be writing your first sentence, as any parent with a kid with dyslexia knows.” The mother-of-three had encouraged her son with a very sweet gesture.
“I blew (the paper) up, and I put it in our kitchen, and it says, ‘I can do this.’ Anyway, he talked about how special that moment was for him,” Sanchez explained. “That was literally the most meaningful and impactful moment at my wedding, besides getting married to Jeff. OK, alright, OK, it was the second most (meaningful).”
The philanthropist shares her oldest son, Nikko, with her ex-boyfriend, Tony Gonzalez. She is also mother to Evan and Ella Whitesell, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Patrick Whitesell.
