UFC unveils Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje as White House card main event
The UFC has rolled out the red carpet for an unforgettable Independence Day weekend, announcing Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje as the electrifying main event for its historic White House showdown. Meanwhile, Alex Pereira will challenge for a third UFC belt, taking on Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title.
UFC officials revealed the matchups on Saturday, March 7, during the UFC 326 broadcast and shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) the next day. The White House event, branded as UFC Freedom Fights 250, will take place on June 14, 2026. It’s set to coincide with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and mark the US’ 250th anniversary.
Topuria (17-0), 29, from Spain, is a two-division champ and feared knockout artist. He moved up to lightweight, defeating Charles Oliveira in June to grab the 155-pound belt. After taking time off for personal issues, the former is set to make his first title defence and might move up to welterweight soon. Meanwhile, Gaethje (27-5), 37, will try to grab the undisputed title for the third time. He has been pursuing a UFC title since 2020, previously falling short against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oliveira.
During Topuria’s absence, Gaethje secured the interim championship in January, defeating Paddy Pimblett via unanimous decision in Las Vegas. A seasoned 18-year veteran and two-time interim champion, Gaethje is based in Denver. The fighter originally hails from Safford, Arizona, a small mining town.
Additionally, the White House event will feature four more exciting matchups. Sean O’Malley will take on Aiemann Zahabi (bantamweight), and Mauricio Ruffy will face Michael Chandler (lightweight). Bo Nickal will fight Kyle Daukaus (middleweight) while Diego Lopes will be battling Steve Garcia (featherweight).
