Potential New Nancy Guthrie Clue Found: Investigators Focus on Damaged Utility Box

Nancy Guthrie has been missing for over a month, but investigators may have just uncovered a new lead in the search for her.

More than five weeks after she was reported missing on February 1, police have confirmed a damaged utility box located near Nancy’s home could hold a clue to her whereabouts.

To recap, Nancy – who is the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie – has not been seen since January 31. She was reported missing the following day. Investigators believe Nancy was kidnapped from her home in Arizona. So far, there has been little progress in finding her.

Now, however, police have confirmed a development in the case. A vandalized utility box has been discovered near the 84-year-old’s home in the Catalina Foothills, located in Pima County. Investigators are looking into whether the damage could have affected the area’s internet service, possibly interfering with security cameras.

“It is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. At this time, we do not have any more information to release,” a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to News 4 Tucson.

Following the development, investigators recently returned to Nancy’s neighborhood to ask residents if they had any issues or disruptions with their internet service on the night she disappeared.

Last week, NBC reporter Liz Kreutz asked Sheriff Chris Nanos about this line of investigation. Unfortunately, he said most neighbors were not at home or were asleep at the time of Nancy’s disappearance. As such, they were unable to provide any information.

“All he would say is that his investigators, along with the FBI, are looking at every angle of that surveillance video,” Liz reported.

In a later interview on Today, the sheriff offered some hope. He said investigators are “definitely closer” to identifying the suspect seen in the surveillance footage.
