Britney Spears’ former assistant and longtime friend has spoken out following her arrest last week. Commenting on the pop star’s DUI, Sean Phillip said he thinks “some people are out to get” Britney.
“Some people are out to get” Britney, according to the worker
To recap, Britney was arrested on March 4 in California on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Per the BBC, Britney was reported to authorities for driving her car “erratically at a high rate of speed” on a motorway. The outlet also reported that she “showed signs of impairment” and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests after she was pulled over.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” a representative for the singer told the BBC afterwards. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
Now, Britney’s former assistant has weighed in on her arrest. “I think there are some people out to get her,” he told Extra. “And the timing is so off … she gets financial independence, and then she’s arrested.”
Sean, who has been friends with Britney since 2003, then pointed to the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 and her decision to sell her music catalog for $200 million in February of this year.
“We all think it’s a push to put her back in a conservatorship,” he said of her arrest. “[Because] guess what happened when the conservatorship stopped? People stopped getting money.”
“I don’t think she’s free,” he went on. “There’s still a care plan in place. I personally don’t think she has access to all her finances.”
