Martin Short could be dealing with permanent grief. That’s the worry many who are close to the comedian fear following the death of his daughter, Katherine. The two, by all accounts, were extremely close, and as you’d imagine, processing her suicide has hit Martin hard.

It’s been just over two weeks since the 42-year-old was found dead, but for Martin, it probably still feels like yesterday. Sources say that coming to grips with this tragedy is “almost impossible to process” for Martin.

Losing a child is often said to be the most unimaginable tragedy one can experience. Katherine’s untimely death has had a profound effect on the comedian. An insider told RadarOnline that Martin adored Katherine, adding that “the sun rose and set with her.”

The man who created the iconic character Jiminy Glick apparently knew Katherine was struggling mentally prior to her death. However, he never knew how bad she was truly feeling until she took her own life. The clinical social worker worked at a private practice in Los Angeles. The clinic specialized in adoption issues, along with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, grief and suicidality among other things.

Martin has been scheduled to perform a comedy show in Milwaukee and Minneapolis at the end of February with Steve Martin. Those shows were cancelled following news of Katherine’s death.

Those close to Martin are worried about their friend’s emotional state during this difficult time. Meryl Streep is among those apparently offering him comfort during this time of grief. The Oscar winner, however, is said to be having a tough time getting through to him. Martin and her are extremely close, so much so that there were rumors months ago that the two would tie the knot.

Katherine’s death comes just weeks after the comedian lost someone else very near and dear to his heart, fellow Canadian actress Catherine O’Hara. Martin’s wife, Nancy Dolman, died of ovarian cancer in 2010.
