For better or worse, Barry Keoghan had a memorable experience on the set of Peaky Blinders. The Irish-born actor was cast to play Thomas Shelby’s son in the upcoming movie, a continuation of the hit British TV show.
Barry recently revealed that Cillian Murphy, the star of the show and new movie, texted him about playing his son in the upcoming film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, ironically on Father’s Day. The two had previously worked together on the movie Dunkirk. As it turns out, Barry may have gotten more than he bargained for during the production of the new film.
Barry says he “cracked all my knuckles open” on day one of filming

Given the story of Peaky Blinders, Barry surely expected he’d be involved in some fight scenes. The show depicts the exploits of a crime gang following the end of World War I. Barry could not have anticipated just how rough things would get for him early on or the environment he’d be in. Speaking to The Guardian, Barry says, “I cracked all my knuckles open” on the opening day of shooting.
He recalls the first scene involving him was a fight in a pigsty, literally. Barry assured audiences who might not believe the fight wasn’t in an actual pigsty “No, it was s*it.” According to Barry, he punched the ground during that fight scene even though he didn’t need to. He apparently chose to do that to pump himself up.
In the past, Barry has admitted to being a huge fan of the Peaky Blinder TV series. Earlier this week, he also shared how he is an avid gamer.
Although his first day on set was rather painful, Barry says working alongside Cillian was a pleasure. Barry says that despite being a newcomer to the cast, he was made to feel welcome right from the get-go. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man came out on Netflix in the UK on March 6 and will be released on the streaming platform in other countries on March 20.
