Britney Spears’ Former Lawyer Reacts to DUI Arrest

Britney Spears’ recent DUI arrest hasn’t changed her former attorney’s sentiments towards her. Mathew Rosengart got to know the pop star well, representing her when she successfully fought to have her father’s conservatorship removed.

Defending her in court while battling for her freedom was a privilege he considered. Thanks to him, Britney’s 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021.

Britney has been in the spotlight this month since a shocking arrest. She had been pulled over after allegedly driving erratically.

Mathew has fond memories of his time with Britney and what they achieved. In a statement on Friday to US Weekly, he said that working and protecting the singer was his “great honor.” He adds that, “I will always be proud of her and the work we did together.”

The legal expert admits that he doesn’t have all the facts related to her March 4 arrest, but did say that “with freedom comes responsibility, and I was pleased to see that Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law.”

Mathew was brought in to represent Britney after her court-appointed lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, quit. Thanks to his efforts, Britney’s dad, Jamie, was suspended as her conservator. Later in 2021, Britney was freed of her conservatorship altogether.

Mathew did more than just defend her in court, though. Thanks in part to him, she secured several deals, including her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, in 2023. He stepped down as her attorney in 2024.

Since her arrest, Britney has prominently featured in the headlines. Last week, it was revealed that she listed her occupation as a celebrity when she was booked. She is said to be getting assistance from those close to her. They are reportedly putting together a plan to help her recover.

While plenty of negativity has been thrown at her since this arrest, Britney has apparently been telling people her blood alcohol level was below the legal limit during the night in question. Her first husband, Jason Alexander, has urged people not to rush to judgment about her and this case. Britney is due to appear in court in May.
