Donald Trump Claims High Oil Prices Are Positive for US

Donald Trump recently commented on rising oil prices amid the escalating conflict involving Iran. The U.S. president addressed the economic impact of higher crude prices while also emphasizing broader geopolitical concerns related to the war.

Donald Trump comments on high oil prices

U.S. President Donald Trump commented on rising oil and gasoline prices during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, stating that higher crude prices can financially benefit the United States, according to Reuters. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said, “The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money.” His remarks came as global oil prices climbed above $100 per barrel amid attacks on oil facilities across the Middle East.

The price increases followed the start of a U.S.-Israel military operation against Iran. The conflict triggered the largest oil price spike since the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The American Automobile Association reported the national average price for a gallon of gasoline reached $3.60 about a week after the conflict began.

Crude prices also rose after Iran launched attacks on oil facilities across the Middle East. The increase occurred despite the release of global petroleum reserves intended to stabilize markets. Although the United States is the largest crude producer, domestic fuel prices are still influenced by global markets and supply chains.

Trump also emphasized that his main focus was on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. In the same Truth Social post he wrote, “BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stopping an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World. I won’t ever let that happen!”

Rising gasoline prices have become a political issue as U.S. midterm election primaries begin. Democrats have criticized the administration’s approach to the conflict and fuel costs. In response, Representative Don Beyer said that President Trump should end this stupid war now and bring down gas prices for the American people.
