Tom Cruise Halted Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Shoot With Dramatic Entrance

A surprise visit from Tom Cruise recently brought the set of Ryan Gosling‘s “Star Wars: Starfighter to a standstill. The cast and crew were immersed in their roles when their attention was drawn to the unexpected drop-in. The Hollywood legend’s arrival left the cast and crew hyped and enthusiastically scrambling to accommodate the celebrity guest.

Tom Cruise’s dramatic entry halted Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars movie shoot

Hollywood star Tom Cruise reportedly made a show-stopping entrance on the “Star Wars: Starfighter” set, bringing Ryan Gosling’s movie shoot to a halt. The “Mission: Impossible” star, known for his daredevil stunts, made an iconic entry, arriving unannounced by helicopter on set.

Ryan Gosling recently shared the story during his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “Tom Cruise flew his helicopter onto set. And they were just shooting, and they heard a helicopter, they had to cut… and it was Tom Cruise,” he recalled.

“He lands in the middle of set, he takes a camera and just starts shooting an action scene,” The “Notebook” actor shared. However, Gosling missed the dramatic moment altogether as it happened on his day off.

Notably, the podcast appearance wasn’t the only account of Cruise’s visit. Director Shawn Levy previously mentioned in an interview with The New York Times that Cruise’s surprise visit wasn’t just a brief drop-by. He showed up on set in November and even helped film a scene.

Levy revealed that Tom Cruise had originally planned to just watch the filming. However, things changed quickly when the team began preparing a lightsaber fight scene in water. Cruise grabbed a camera and jumped into the muddy pond, capturing the epic lightsaber duel scene himself.

“Now, when you see the movie, you’ll know that part of it was shot by Tom,” Levy said.

“Star Wars: Starfighter,” a spin-off set after “The Rise of Skywalker,” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027. Ryan Gosling stars alongside Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
