One Direction fans have been desperate for a reunion, well, since the band split almost a decade ago. But, while Zayn Malik’s departure from the group in 2015 initially prompted their hiatus, Harry Styles is now being blamed for One Direction’s lack of reunion since then.
Harry Styles’ “stratospheric success” is being blamed
According to a source who spoke to OK! magazine, Harry’s “stratospheric success” as a solo artist is causing tension amongst the other One Direction bandmates. These are Zayn, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. Liam Payne was also a member of the world-famous group. However, he tragically died at the age of 31 in October 2024.
“Harry’s career has exploded to a level that’s miles beyond where the others ended up. That kind of imbalance inevitably creates tension,” the source said, pointing to Harry’s many hit albums and upcoming residency tour.
“When one member of a former group becomes one of the biggest solo stars in the world, it changes the dynamic completely,” the insider went on. “There’s a lot of pride involved and, if we’re being honest, some bruised egos too. It has quietly fueled resentment for a long time.”
The source then noted that because “there’s still a lot of history” between the boys, “none of them are ever going to publicly point the finger at Harry’s success.” But what about behind closed doors? It’s understood that “people close” to the other band mates know that Harry’s career has “inevitably created distance.”
“That contrast has made things complicated behind the scenes,” they went on. “And it’s one of the reasons the bond between them hasn’t fully recovered.”
That said, the other band members have not been without their successes. Since leaving One Direction, they have all pursued solo music careers, headlined tours, and explored fashion and acting.
