President Donald Trump shared a clip from the debut episode of Saturday Night Live U.K. (SNL) on March 22. He seems to have given his silent approval to a sketch that portrays U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer as terrified of him.
Donald Trump reposts SNL UK skit on Truth Social
Early Sunday morning, Donald Trump shared SNL U.K.’s first-ever opening sketch spoofing him on his Truth Social account without adding any caption or commentary. The sketch, which served as the cold open for the new British spin-off, features actor George Fouracres playing Prime Minister Keir Starmer. In the scene, Starmer struggles to tell the U.S. president he does not want to join a war in Iran.
The gesture is a notable shift for Trump, who has a long history of criticizing political comedy at his expense. So, his decision to share the SNL U.K. version without complaint suggests he found this particular portrayal more to his liking.
In detail, the skit opens with Fouracres’ Starmer sitting at his desk, a framed photo of Trump visible behind him. As the phone rings, he panics: “Oh, golly! What if Donald shouts at me? What do I say?” An adviser played by Hammed Animashaun responds: “Just be yourself, prime minister! Yourself is who everyone likes.”
But Starmer, who has been termed in the British press as a “jellyfish” and “doormat”, quickly cuts the call when Trump answers. “Oh, sod that scary, scary wonderful president,” he says. “Why is he so blubber difficult to talk to?”
A young adviser, played by Jack Shep, enters with a modern solution. Calling the prime minister “Starmzy” – a play on U.K. rapper Stormzy – the Gen Z character suggests sending a voice note instead of a phone call. “I’ll try anything, I’ll do anything,” Starmer replies. “Except take a stand.” The voice note that follows mixes policy with pop culture references.
All in all, Trump’s repost of the SNL UK segment suggests the joke landed well with the person being spoofed.
