Tom Hardy’s Wife Gives Rare Comments on Their Marriage and Her First Impressions

Charlotte Riley has opened up about how Tom Hardy won her over – and it wasn’t his six-pack or deep, raspy voice. The couple met on the set of the 2009 TV adaptation of Wuthering Heights, where Tom apparently demonstrated his skills in a very particular area…

As it turns out, Tom – who is set to reprise his role as Venom – makes a great cup of tea. Charlotte revealed that during their downtime on set, the actor impressed her with the British staple.

She told the Sunday Times: “He made me a really decent cup of tea. Strong. There’s not much point if the spoon doesn’t stand up.”

Tom’s tea-making skills weren’t the only thing that won Charlotte over. She said he was also really easy-going – not “some sort of Method actor” but “just his cheeky-chappy self.”

The pair hit it off on set, which Charlotte theorizes is because they both have roots in Northern England. In fact, it was Charlotte’s accent that had them laughing behind the scenes.

“We were talking about it the other day. There’s that famous line: ‘Whatever our souls are made of, yours and mine are the same.’ We shot it in a tiny church on the moors and it was beautiful. We were sitting in a pew and I had to turn to Tom and say my line. And he absolutely died laughing. Because when you say it with my northern accent, it sounds like, ‘Whatever a**eholes are made of…'”

She added: “And that was it, we were gone for the rest of the day. I do need to get a tattoo of that.”

The couple has a lot to thank Wuthering Heights for – they’ve since built a 12-year marriage and welcomed two children together.
