Jay-Z is opening up about one of the darkest moments of his life. The New York-born rapper’s world was turned upside down in 2024 when allegations of rape were revealed against him and Diddy. Surprisingly, he discussed that in a recent interview.
He admits that all the accusations and things people were saying about him at that time got the best of him. “I haven’t been that angry in a long time, uncontrollable anger,” said Jay-Z. When his name came out as one of the accused, Jay-Z denied the allegations, claiming it was blackmail.
Jay-Z was “really heartbroken” after the claims
The mere thought that some people believed Jay-Z was capable of rape did a number on him. In an interview for April’s cover of GQ, he shared just how damaging all the speculation around him was for him personally at that time. “I was really heartbroken by everything that occurred,” he admitted. Everything happened so fast for him at the time, and it hit him so hard.
While it didn’t feel good to hear his name being tarnished, he said that he remained confident he’d walk away from that and be ok. The lawsuit against him was eventually dismissed with prejudice, preventing a refiling. The suit was dismissed without a settlement.
In addition to his emotional lawsuit, the Empire State of Mind singer discussed fatherhood. He explains that his three kids mean everything to him. For him, they are the ones who put everything in perspective.
While Jay-Z hasn’t released any new albums since 2017’s 4:44, he does have an upcoming performance next month. He will be performing at The Roots’ Picnic in Philadelphia on May 30.
