Louis Theroux Breaks Down the Manosphere Documentary Subjects and Their ‘Feedback Loop’

A British filmmaker is delving into a controversial subject. Louis Theroux is breaking down what is commonly referred to as the manosphere in a new documentary. Those forums, blogs and websites promote masculinity and anti-feminist views, with many suggesting that these far-right ideologies are biased towards men. Louis believes some of those content creators “are in a feedback loop.”

He is taking a closer look at that controversial world as part of a new documentary. The cousin of actor Justin Theroux has earned critical acclaim for his past work, previously claiming three British Television Academy Awards.

Louis’ new documentary pulls back the curtain about the manosphere. In an interview with People, he says, “I came to this content via my kids.” The father of three says that he believes many in that industry are “preying on young men.” He believes some of the content is sincere, but he adds that much of it is purely to drive engagement. As such, he believes behaviors are adjusted that may have more male chauvinistic ideals.

During the filming of his documentary, Louis saw first-hand the on and off-camera personas of those creating this controversial content. The primary content creator in his film is HStikkytokky. Louis says the man, whose real name is Harrisson Sullivan, is very different when not streaming content. When he asks him a question, Louis says that he’s calm, composed and speaks eloquently. That, for him, is a sharp contrast to his rude and offensive behavior online.

In the end, Louis says that his priority in this documentary is to expose the truth. The must-see documentary called Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere dropped on Netflix on March 11.
