Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie is responding to disparaging rumors about her family amidst her mother’s disappearance. Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her Tucson home on February 1.
Savannah sat down for a Today Show interview, which aired on Thursday, March 26. In the emotional discussion, Savannah was candid about the situation.
Savannah Guthrie called the FBI video “absolutely terrifying”

In a sit-down with her former co-host and current fill-in, Hoda Kotb, Savannah addressed rumors that her sister Annie’s husband was involved in the kidnapping. “It’s unbearable and it piles pain upon pain. There are no words,” she said, adding that it’s something she doesn’t and never will understand. “And no one took better care of my mom than my sister and my brother-in-law. No one protected my mom more than my brother. We love her and she is our shining light. She is our matriarch. She’s all we have.”
Last month, the FBI released footage of a masked person at Nancy’s front door. Despite this evidence, a suspect has not been found.
In a February statement, the police said, “At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”
Savannah thanked the investigators and tech companies who were “able to find that video” of the suspect. “[The FBI video was] just absolutely terrifying,” she said. “I can’t imagine that that is who she saw standing over her bed. I can’t — it’s too much,” she said.
During the 50-day search for Nancy, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has provided regular updates on the investigation.
