Why Will Ferrell Makes His Kids Fly Economy

Will Ferrell doesn’t want to raise any entitled nepo babies.

The iconic comedian spoke on the Harland High podcast about his concerns about raising his children right. More specifically, he didn’t want his success as a celebrity to have a negative effect on their personality or work ethic.

To illustrate this, he explained why he flies separately from them.

The actor wants his children to “learn the value of a buck”

“Whenever we take a family trip, I’ll sit in first class, and my kids will sit not only in coach but a different airline,” Will said in the interview. “Not even on the same flight.”

“They only get to fly red-eye with as many layovers as possible,” the SNL alum continued. “I’m trying to teach the value of a buck.”

Will’s parenting approach doesn’t stop with travel, either. “They have got to … like food and clothing,” he said. “They’ve got to earn it.”

Moreover, in addition to not wanting to raise his children entitled, Will wants his kids to have a similar upbringing to the one that he had. Born in Irvine, California, the comedian’s mother and father, originally from North Carolina, worked as an elementary school teacher and as a backing musician, respectively.

“They have just got to figure it out. It’s part of life,” he continued in the interview. “Figure it out, I had to!”

Will has been married to Swedish actress Viveca Paulin since 2000. They share three sons: Magnus, 22, Mattias, 19, and Axel, 16.

After originally studying to become a sports broadcaster, the Step Brothers actor started as a stand-up comedian. Later, he joined the iconic improv comedy group The Groundlings, where he was invited to audition for SNL creator Lorne Michaels.

Will was a main cast member on the series from 1995 to 2002, and has hosted the series five times since. It was shortly after his SNL departure that he got his first major lead role, in the now-classic Christmas comedy, Elf (2003).
