Zendaya and Tom Holland keep their relationship really private, but the “Euphoria” star hinted at what drew her to him in the first place. While speaking on The New York Times “Modern Love” podcast, the former described a feeling many people chase in relationships but don’t always find — calm — and apparently Holland gave it to her.
Zendaya starred on the show with Robert Pattinson to discuss their new film, “The Drama.” Host Anna Martin used the movie’s tense setup to ask both actors about love in real life and the moments when you realize someone is “your person.”
Tom Holland made Zendaya feel calm by being a nice person
During the conversation, Zendaya revealed her own dynamics with Tom Holland. She explained that nervousness can show up around attraction. However, the actor also believes a different feeling can be an indication of something deeper, and that in her experience, “there’s a certain feeling that I was able to experience when I knew that this is my person.”
Zendaya revealed that she did not feel nervous around Holland. In fact, she added, “I feel really peaceful, and I feel really calm, and I feel like, ‘oh, I actually feel more nervous when I’m away from you than when I’m with you.’”
Martin followed up and asked how that calm showed up early on. Zendaya pointed to the start of her connection with Holland, saying, “Maybe when we first met, I already felt like ‘cuz I guess, like, we first met in an audition,” adding, “So I was pretty nervous anyway, but he did make me feel calm.”
When Martin asked exactly how he did that, Zendaya simply said, “Just by being a nice person, you know, by making me feel comfortable.” She added that the situation came with a lot of pressure, disclosing, “It’s like having to do a chemistry read for a big movie like that is like you know you really want the job and all these kind of things and yeah, he was really lovely then.”
Zendaya’s love story with Tom Holland sounded calm and comfortable — and for her, that was exactly the point.
