Chris Christie, who once served as an advisor to Donald Trump, has blasted the President for throwing rigged allegations at the 2020 elections after losing to his Democrat counterpart, Joe Biden. Having become a Trump critic in recent times, Christie remarked that, despite having questioned the 2020 elections’ authenticity on numerous occasions, the businessman-turned-politician himself doesn’t believe his own claims.
Chris Christie talks about Donald Trump’s 2020 election
During an April 6 event at the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School, the former New Jersey Governor unequivocally denied Donald Trump’s remarks about Joe Biden stealing his presidential victory six years ago.
“The crap that Donald Trump put out there about the 2020 election is fiction. It’s make-believe,” Chris Christie said in a video from the event. “And by the way, I was there in 2020. He doesn’t even believe it. He didn’t believe it, he thought he lost. And he was afraid he was gonna lose all during that fall.”
In reference to the growing conversation around the credibility of elections, Christie was also asked if the country would witness a “fair and equal” midterm election in November. “We’ve never not had fair and equal elections, so we will have them again,” the 63-year-old politician responded.
Notably, Chris Christie had previously advised Donald Trump before eventually switching sides and becoming a critic of the current President. He himself announced his presidential campaign for the 2024 elections in 2023 before withdrawing some time later.
During the Harvard event, Christie also criticized Trump’s approach regarding current geopolitical issues, stating, “Even for people who agree with some of the stuff the president is doing, if you’re really honest with yourself, you know it’s not based on principle. He wakes up every morning and tries to figure out what is the best thing for him to do in his self-interest that day, and that day only.”
