Artemis II astronauts praises Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary
Recently, Artemis II astronauts revealed that they watched Ryan Gosling’s Project Hail Mary before taking off. The 45-year-old actor portrays a middle school science teacher-turned-astronaut on a mission to save humanity in the critically acclaimed movie.
On April 4, Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen shared this tidbit in a televised interview from the spacecraft. Hansen revealed that he and his teammates got “a real treat” when they watched Project Hail Mary before jetting off to space themselves.
“We are all really lucky; we got to watch Hail Mary when we were in quarantine,” Hansen expressed. “That was a real treat that they sent us a link to view at home with our families, getting us ready to go on our own space adventure.”
He added, “I would just say to Ryan — art imitates science and vice versa, it seems. He did a great job in the movie, and it’s wonderful to see people really leaning into those roles. I thought it was just such an inspirational example [of] somebody who goes out there and just gets what was done to save humanity.” Hansen further said that the film was “a pretty extraordinary example” that they could follow. He also spoke on behalf of his fellow astronauts who “thought that movie was really uplifting and inspiring.”
Interestingly, Hansen and Gosling are both natives of London, Ontario, in Canada. Fans are loving the mutual show of respect and affection between Gosling and the Artemis II crew. One fan commented, “They really did such a good job with the marketing of this movie. This and the STEM initiative make me so happy.” A second fan wrote, “I bet it inspired and pumped them up even more for this mission.” A third fan remarked, “THIS IS SO COOL!!” Finally, a fan penned, “Aaand I’m crying again.”
Project Hail Mary is playing in cinemas now.
