Dakota Johnson‘s new relationship is reportedly getting serious. Following a fresh Los Angeles sighting, a recent source said the relationship status is much more than something situational, pushing the romance past casual buzz. The actor and musician Role Model were photographed kissing on April 3. They were also seen getting coffee two days later. The recent run of outings matched a connection that reportedly began late last year.
Dakota Johnson and Role Model’s relationship is not just a fling, claims source
According to PEOPLE, Dakota Johnson and Role Model had been dating “since late last year.” The outlet said the pair were first spotted spending time together in December and January. An insider said, “It’s definitely more than a fling, or just a flirt.” The report tied the moment to their April 3 PDA moment in Los Feliz. It also noted their April 5 coffee outing. Together, those sightings gave the new relationship a more public timeline.
The same source said the “Fifty Shades of Grey” actor “does really like” the singer, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury. However, the insider added that she was “also taking things slow” after her previous long-term relationship.
PEOPLE linked that caution to her on-and-off romance with Coldplay lead, Chris Martin, which lasted until June 2025. At the same time, the outlet said the pair were “very much on the same page.” The source also said, “It just feels easy.” Johnson reportedly thought Role Model was “cute,” and he treated her “incredibly well.”
There was also support around the edges of the romance. A viral Instagram clip showed Johnson’s mother, Melanie Griffith, praising the singer. She said, “I think he’s fabulous,” when asked about the musician.
Earlier, a source told PEOPLE in March that the “Materialists” star was “playing the field at the moment.” That made the April sightings look like a step forward. Professionally, Johnson also has a packed slate, including “Verity” and her directing debut, “A Tree Is Blue.” Meanwhile, Role Model is set for his film debut in Lena Dunham’s Netflix rom-com “Good Sex.”
