NBC Staff Told How to Behave Around Savannah Guthrie — Source

Savannah Guthrie has returned to NBC, bringing a rush of emotion inside 30 Rock, but insiders claim that the network wants to avoid turning the support into something that makes her day harder. The NBC staff has reportedly received instructions on how to approach the Today co-anchor and maintain proper boundaries. In that, they have been asked to give her space, even while they mean well.

Rob Shuter exclusively reported via Naughty But Nice on Substack that NBC has guided the staff on how to treat Savannah Guthrie on the set. An insider told Shuter, “Everyone wants to stop her in the hallway or give her a hug in the elevator,” adding that “There’s a real outpouring of love” — but the management has stepped in to set boundaries at work.

The source explained, “Staff have been told — be kind, but keep it professional,” adding, “This is still a workplace.”

That guidance does not mean people have to avoid her or act cold — it is just a reminder for everyone not to crowd her in emotional moments during the workday. As the insider explained, “You can say hello, you can ride the elevator with her. But don’t overwhelm her.”

Additionally, the source claimed, “This isn’t Savannah demanding anything.” They added, “It’s the network trying to protect her,” which, in other words, means that NBC appears to acknowledge what Guthrie means to her colleagues, while also keeping the daily routine like that of an actual newsroom.

The insider claimed, “People care about her — a lot,” noting, “But she’s also trying to do her job.” So, as the insider said, “She needs support — but she also needs space to function,” because “As heartbreaking as this situation is, this is still a newsroom.”

Insiders described NBC trying to do the right thing in a careful way, because despite Savannah Guthrie’s personal life, “Work has to continue.”
