An insider told Shuter, “Everyone wants to stop her in the hallway or give her a hug in the elevator,” adding that “There’s a real outpouring of love” — but the management has stepped in to set boundaries at work.
The source explained, “Staff have been told — be kind, but keep it professional,” adding, “This is still a workplace.”
That guidance does not mean people have to avoid her or act cold — it is just a reminder for everyone not to crowd her in emotional moments during the workday. As the insider explained, “You can say hello, you can ride the elevator with her. But don’t overwhelm her.”
Additionally, the source claimed, “This isn’t Savannah demanding anything.” They added, “It’s the network trying to protect her,” which, in other words, means that NBC appears to acknowledge what Guthrie means to her colleagues, while also keeping the daily routine like that of an actual newsroom.
