Jensen Ackles Recalls Sanitizer & Lube Mix-up on The Boys Set

A behind-the-scenes moment from The Boys has resurfaced, and it’s exactly as chaotic as fans would expect. Jensen Ackles recently shared a story that perfectly sums up the show’s wild set atmosphere.

Jensen Ackles talks about awkward sanitizer and lube mix-up from The Boys

Ackles recalled filming the infamous “Herogasm” episode back in 2021, when COVID precautions were still in place in a recent interview with CinemaBlend. The set had hand sanitizers placed everywhere for safety. But things got confusing because of how the props were arranged.

According to Ackles, the crew had also placed bottles of lubricant as part of the set decoration for the episode. The problem was that both items were kept right next to each other. That led to some very awkward mix-ups during filming.

He explained that several cast and crew members, including himself, mistakenly grabbed what they thought was sanitizer. Instead, they ended up with something completely different. Recalling the moment, Ackles joked, “I was like, wow, they must have really put a lot of aloe into this sanitizer.” It didn’t take long for everyone to realize what had happened, turning it into a hilarious but uncomfortable memory. Antony Starr also chimed in, saying, “It just, it just doesn’t dry up.”

Ackles joined the series as Soldier Boy, a role that marked a shift from his long-running stint on Supernatural. His performance brought a darker, more layered edge, earning praise from fans and critics alike. Over the years, Ackles has built a strong career in television. He spent more than a decade on Supernatural, becoming a fan favorite.

Since then, he has explored different genres, including voice work and action-heavy roles. Looking ahead, Ackles continues to stay busy. He is set to appear in new projects while also expanding his presence in streaming content.

While his career keeps evolving, stories like reminds us that even serious actors can end up in completely bizarre situations on set.
