We all know how lucrative YouTube can be for the site’s top performers. And with 476 million followers on the platform, it’s probably fair to say MrBeast is doing pretty well. However, his business model may need a bit of work. Despite being worth an estimated $2.6 billion, he claims to have very little money, even with an 18-hour workday.
MrBeast puts a lot of his wealth back into his video content
MrBeast has been a popular face online for around a decade. His content centers on challenges with huge rewards, leading to his own Amazon Prime game show, Beast Games.
But the YouTuber – who may be joining the Survivor cast – insists his life is far from glamorous. In a recent video, he claims to work 18 hours a day. He revealed: “It was a miracle if a day was less than 15 hours for me. My days are literally planned down to the minute. Everything has to be perfect because I don’t have much time.”
Despite his self-described lack of a healthy work-life balance, MrBeast claimed in a recent Wall Street Journal interview that he’s pretty strapped for cash. He said: “I have negative money right now; I’m borrowing money. That’s how little money I have. Technically, everyone watching this video has more money than me in their bank account if you subtract the equity value of my company, which doesn’t buy me McDonald’s in the morning.”
His comments attracted plenty of attention online, and it’s fair to say people were unimpressed. In a thread on Reddit, one user wrote: “How horrible, a billionaire who’s cash poor. What ever shall he do?”
Another added: “He’s been going with this narrative for a long time – I’m not sure if he thinks the public is stupid, or if he’s just trying to convince himself.”
A third user said: “He could live off ad revenue alone and just retire.”
Another succinctly summed up many people’s thoughts: “He needs to shut the fuck up.”
While it’s not exactly clear how MrBeast is managing to get through the large sums of cash he is likely raking in, it’s true he does put a lot of his earnings back into his content, including offering prizes of millions of dollars in his large-scale challenges.
