Patrick Ball Cries As He Reveals How The Pitt Helped Him

Patrick Ball, who stars in the HBO Max medical drama, “The Pitt“, got emotional as he revealed how his job on the show helped him with a difficult personal challenge: paying off his student loan. The series marks his first major on-screen acting role following his guest appearance in a “Law & Order” episode.

However, the actor has extensive experience in theatre, having appeared in productions such as “All My Sons” and “Hamlet”. He most recently made his Broadway debut with Becky Shaw, appearing alongside Alden Ehrenreich and Madeline Brewer.

Ball, who plays Dr. Frank Langdon on “The Pitt“, recently sat down for an interview to promote his latest theatre play, Becky Shaw. During the discussion, he remembered the time he credited the show for helping him clear his student loan.

Tearing up, the actor revealed that he paid it off three months after he began working on The Pitt. Opening up about the event, he told Cultured that it was “a really profound moment” for him as he originally believed he would die in debt. He admitted that it was a “huge burden to carry” and not uncommon amongst people.

He then stressed how his debt negatively impacted his personal life. “I was $80,000 in debt and I had been through a series of failed relationships where my financial insecurity was a real problem,” he recalled. “I had just thought that was going to be my life forever, and that is a really heavy thing to live with.”

Ball subsequently emphasized that he had achieved financial freedom after paying off his loan. He said that regardless of The Pitt’s success, he was no longer in debt. “No take-backsies on that,” he added.

Ball received a Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nomination at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards for his performance in The Pitt. He also received a nomination for, and eventually won, along with the other actors in the show, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the Actor Awards.
