Kanye West ‘Manic Episode’ Could Have Made Him ‘Lose Touch With Reality Entirely’ — Expert

The alleged reason behind Kanye West’s antisemitic rant can potentially be explained. At least it can for one mental health expert. Last year, the rapper praised Adolf Hitler while also saying he was a Nazi. He later apologized, explaining that these rants were due to his bipolar disorder.

Professor David Curtis agrees with Kanye’s claims. “During a manic episode, it is possible to lose touch with reality entirely,” said David. The UCL Genetics Institute teacher says that people who do similar things like Kanye’s rant are often not themselves when things like this come up.

Kanye’s behavior “need not reflect latent antisemitism or extremist ideology”

Despite what he said online, Kanye may not share those kinds of beliefs about Jewish people. Speaking to the Daily Mail, David explains that anyone with bipolar disorder can experience “impulsive, reckless, or even psychotic” episodes. According to him, it is an “illness.” For David Kanye’s actions “need not reflect latent antisemitism or extremist ideology.”

Even though he’s expressed regret for what he said, Kanye’s apologies are insufficient to some. Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband was reportedly not welcome at the 2026 Grammy Awards. At the same time, top UK officers also refused to accept his apology on the matter. The rapper’s visa to get into the country was revoked. Kanye had been slated to headline this summer’s Wireless Festival.

Wes Streeting, the UK’s Education Secretary, believed that Kanye was using his bipolar disorder as an excuse for his actions. The country’s Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp echoed similar sentiments on the matter. Chris believes that Kanye’s antisemitic rant caused irreparable damage to Jewish communities around the globe.

His 2025 social media rant wasn’t the first time Kanye took aim at Jewish people. In 2022, he delivered a hate speech against Jewish people, saying he wanted to go “death con 3” on the community.
