Prince Harry Sued for Libel and Slander by Former Charity: Details

A registered HIV charity is taking aim at its founder. Prince Harry is being sued by Sentebale for libel and slander. The Prince helped start that charity in 2006 to support struggling kids cope with their AIDS and HIV diagnosis.

Harry resigned from the company last year following an ugly internal dispute with the chairwoman, Sophie Chandauka. Sophie previously accused the Prince of systemic bullying and harassment. The company alleges that Harry and his close friend Mark Dyer caused serious harm to the charity and its reputation after leaving.

The Prince may have to revisit a chapter of his life he’d hoped was over. Sentebale released a statement on Friday confirming that they had “commenced legal proceedings” against Harry and Mark. The pair are accused of doing a “coordinated adverse media campaign” against Sentebale. According to the charity Harry and Mark’s actions caused a “significant viral impact and triggered an onslaught of cyber-bullying directed at the charity and its leadership.”

Sentebale was co-founded by Harry in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana. Its focus is on HIV and AIDS victims in Lesotho and Botswana. Harry wasn’t the only one to leave the company last year. Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, who helped found the charity alongside Harry, also resigned in 2025.

Previously, Sophie alleged that Harry asked her to defend his wife, Meghan Markle, from negative publicity. This came after an awkward photo op in April 2024 involving the Duchess of Sussex for the charity. Sophie is a corporate finance lawyer.

In August of last year, a Commission determined there was no evidence to support Sophie’s claims of bullying and harassment involving Harry.

This lawsuit comes a matter of months after Harry went after a prominent publication. In October he accused the Daily Mail of targeting Prince William and Kate Middleton through some unlawful means.
