Robert Pattinson talks about the ‘legacy’ of Batman

While promoting his new movie, The Drama, on Vogue, Robert Pattinson briefly shared his thoughts on Batman and his experience playing the iconic DC superhero. He began describing the character, saying, “‘The Batman,’ the granddaddy of superheroes and the most relevant and important.”

The Twilight star said that once he started playing the role, he began to reflect on its legacy. He noted that countless people had seen the character, and that figures resembling Batman were even in ancient civilizations. He explained that there was something “deeply primal” about the character’s face, which resonated with both children and adults.

The Die My Love action went on to explain how “lucky” the character has been, given that it has attracted so many talented filmmakers. He added that there have been several really good Batman movies, and that every filmmaker who has made them has added more to the legacy. “No one wants to be the person who messes it up,” Pattinson said.

The 39-year-old then went on to talk about Matt Reeves. “I loved his Planet of the Apes movies, and I love a lot of his movies,” he shared. “I think he is incredible at making blockbusters that don’t feel like you’re being shortchanged, that feel very interesting. All performances are really good.”

Talking about his experience playing the Dark Knight, Pattinson said that it was like “climbing Everest.” Although he thought that the task of portraying the character seemed “impossible,” he said it was something he wanted to achieve. He recalled that once he put on the suit, people reacted differently to him. Even crew members appeared slightly intimidated and gave him space. “It’s amazing,” the actor concluded.
