Stephen Colbert Asks JD Vance To ‘Grow a Spine’

Veteran comedian and long-term Donald Trump critic Stephen Colbert has called out Vice President JD Vance for his contribution to starting the Iran war, following the announcement of the ceasefire. In his latest monologue, the late-night talk show host slammed Vance for failing to offer effective advice to Trump on the Middle Eastern conflict, all the while mocking his recent visit to Hungary.

Stephen Colbert comments on JD Vance and ceasefire

On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the titular host recently highlighted how the Vice President was the only one who preferred not to attack Iran during the planning phase. However, he ultimately changed tunes when it was time to take the final call.

“You know, I think this is a bad idea. But if you want to do it, I’ll support you,” JD Vance reportedly told Donald Trump before the latter commissioned strikes on Iran.

“Grow a spine, JD,” remarked Stephen Colbert on the April 9 episode of his show. “This is about starting a war in the Middle East, not a discussion on getting bangs.” He then spoke about Vance’s visit to Budapest, Hungary, to offer his support to the nation’s right-wing Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán.

Notably, the 62-year-old Orbán is contesting for re-election, with voting set to take place on Sunday, April 12. With him struggling to swing the polls in his favor, he organized a rally on Thursday and invited JD Vance as the “star attraction” of the campaign.

“That is a s**t headliner,” Colbert quipped, adding, “Reminds me of when Coachella replaced Lady Gaga with one of the port-a-potties.” Aside from blasting JD Vance, he also talked about the two-week truce with Iran, which Donald Trump described as a “double-sided ceasefire.”

Stephen Colbert noted, “Aren’t all peace deals double-sided? I believe there’s a word for a single-sided ceasefire, and it’s murder.”

Further replying to Donald Trump’s claims about having “met and exceeded” all intended objectives in Iran, Colbert exclaimed, “It’s true. This war reached all of its objectives. It’s been a week since anyone mentioned the Epstein files.”
