Hoda Kotb joined Savannah Guthrie to host “Today” during Craig Melvin’s break. As per Page Six‘s source, the decision to bring Kotb was a “no brainer,” as she and Guthrie have an “unbreakable bond.” The insider stated, “It’s Savannah’s second week back, and Hoda is a safe space for her.” The individual further added, “They’ve been through a lot together and have a meaningful connection. That’s important to a morning show audience.”
The Egyptian-American broadcaster took over Guthrie’s role till she returned on April 6. Sources called Kotb a “steady hand, and calm presence for the staff,” as she showed support for both Guthrie and the show. “It’s a no brainer for her to step in, and in this circumstance, it just makes sense,” the source shared. During the April 9 broadcast, Guthrie enthusiastically announced Kotb’s return with Melvin taking a “well deserved vacation” for a week.
The 54-year-old said, “Craig, you are heading off on a very well-deserved vacation. You’ve been holding it down here for a long time. So, you’re gonna have a spring break.” She continued, “And Monday, we’re gonna try a new host here. Her name is Hoda [Kotb], and she’s gonna fill in for you next week. So, that will be fun.” Melvin said, “Oh, I’ve heard of her! That will be fun. I won’t see you. I won’t turn on the TV, but it’ll be fun. As such, Guthrie replied, “Yeah, don’t. You’re not supposed to watch on your vacation.”
