With Tiger Woods facing severe backlash following his latest DUI arrest, SNL Weekend Update co-host Michael Che got in on the action in the show’s latest episode by mocking the legendary golfer. During the segment, the comedian shared several news updates in his usual sarcastic manner, including one about sharks, in which he fired a clever shot at Woods.
Michael Che cracks a joke on Tiger Woods amid DUI arrest
The April 11 episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted for the first time by “Sing Sing” star Colman Domingo, featured several quips regarding the veteran golfer, including a Donald Trump skit as well as a comment by Michael Che.
During the Weekend Update segment, Che noted, “A new study reveals that sharks in the Bahamas have tested positive for painkillers.” He then added, “In fact, the only animals that consume more painkillers are Tigers,” as a photo of Woods appeared on the screen.
Notably, Tiger Woods’ latest DUI arrest occurred last month on Jupiter Island, which reportedly saw the 50-year-old athlete ram his vehicle into a trailer while trying to overtake a truck. Authorities noted that even though he displayed signs of impairment, a breathalyzer test could not detect alcohol. However, Woods later refused a urinalysis test, resulting in an added charge.
Another section of the show included a skit headlined by James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump. The play had Trump making urgent calls to several high-profile personalities, including Tiger Woods (Kenan Thompson).
After dialing Woods, Trump noted, “Tiger! It’s Donald! What’s going on? Are you playing in the Masters this weekend?” Thompson’s Woods replied, “No, sir. I don’t know if you remember, but I flipped my car and got a DUI.”
“Oh, right. A DUI,” Trump said, pronouncing DUI as ‘dewy’, before adding, “As in, ‘Do he drive on pills?’ Yes he do.” Woods complimented Trump on the joke, prompting the President to say that Woods “should have told the cops we were friends, they would have let you off.”
“Well, I did, and they didn’t,” Woods responded. Trump then sarcastically remarked, “If only there was something I could have done to help. Oh well!” The duo then shared a comment over golf before Trump abruptly hung up the call.
