After facing years of controversy and personal challenges, Alec Baldwin is now speaking openly about stepping back from acting. The experienced star says his focus has changed, as he now puts family first instead of continuing to center his life around his long career in Hollywood.
Alec Baldwin says he doesn’t ‘want to work anymore’
Alec Baldwin recently said he feels ready to step away from acting after the tragic incident connected to Rust. Talking about what happened, he admitted to the Hollywood Reporter that it had a deep impact on him. He called the situation “unspeakably difficult to deal with,” as he looked back on the event that led to the death of Halyna Hutchins.
The actor also shared that over the last few years, he spent a lot of time at home and became comfortable with that routine. He said he stayed with his kids for about three and a half years and has grown to prefer that life. Baldwin made his stance clear, saying he doesn’t “want to work anymore“ and would rather retire and focus fully on being with his family.
The Rust incident brought major legal challenges for Baldwin. Authorities charged him with involuntary manslaughter, but the court later dismissed the case with prejudice, so it cannot be filed again. Speaking about the situation, he said the legal fight was tough and felt like people were going after him. “They tried to get me, and they didn’t get me, and they cheated and broke the law to get me, and it’s just been tough,” Baldwin said.
Even with all that, Baldwin has had a long and successful career in Hollywood. He has received an Oscar nomination and gained wide recognition for movies like The Departed and his Emmy-winning role in 30 Rock. Over time, he became known for handling both serious roles and comedy with equal skill.
On the personal side, Baldwin credited his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, for helping him get through the crisis. He said he might not have survived the situation without her support. The couple shares seven children, and their family life was even featured in a reality series, The Baldwins, in 2025.
